What You Can Do to Help Improve Mail Delivery

We recently met with representatives from the USPS to address several ongoing concerns and discuss how we can all work together to improve mail and package delivery in our community. Below are important takeaways and helpful reminders for all residents:

šŸ“¬ Labeling Inside Mailboxes

Having a clear, accurate label inside your mailbox. Templates are available at the post office. Here are the key points:

  • The label must include the full first and last names of everyone who receives mail at your address.
    • This includes maiden names, hyphenated last names, etc.
    • Avoid using only initials, first names, or last names—use full names to avoid delivery errors.

šŸ“¦ Misdelivered Mail

If you receive mail that is not yours:

  • Do not discard or return it to your mailbox.
  • Please take it to the local post office. This helps USPS identify and fix delivery errors more effectively.

ā„ļø Winter Delivery and Safety

During the winter months, delivery drivers are allowed to withhold mail and packages if:

  • Driveways and entryways (those you are responsible for) are snow-packed or icy.

This is a safety measure—slips and falls on icy surfaces are a serious concern. Please keep walkways clear to avoid missed deliveries.

šŸ“ƒ Package Delivery Scans

If your USPS tracking app says a package was delivered but it’s not at your door:

  • Bring the delivery slip/invoice to the post office.
  • The clerk can scan the code and determine the actual location of your package.
  • Surface shipments often show as ā€œdeliveredā€ in the app before they reach your home.

šŸ  Moving? Don’t Forget to Update Your Address

As a military installation, we experience a high volume of turnover. Please remember to:

  • Submit a change of address to USPS.
  • Update your address with Amazon, banks, and other service providers to avoid mis deliveries.

🚫 Do Not Block Mailboxes

Please do not park in front of mailbox clusters.

  • USPS vehicles are large and need room to pull up close.
  • Parking in front of mailboxes slows down delivery and increases the risk of vehicle damage.
  • Carriers also need to sort and access mail safely without blocking traffic or risking accidents.

By working together and following these simple steps, we can help USPS provide more accurate and reliable service for everyone in our community.
