Not always.  If you are exchanging an item that requires details and that could have multiple styles/sized available, it is best to bring in the old item to ensure you are receiving the correct new item.  Items such as furnace filters and light bulbs are a good example, as our Self Help Center stocks multiple variants of each, whereas smoke detector and garage remote batteries are not size/brand specific.
